The Impossible Collection of Fashion
As director and chief curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Valerie Steele has orchestrated numerous fashion exhibitions. The Impossible Collection of Fashion showcases 100 of the most iconic dresses of the 20th century, personally curated by Steele. From Jean Paul Gaultier's cone-bust corset dress circa 1984 to Hussein Chalayan's remote-control fiberglass Airplane Dress from 2000, this volume celebrates the groundbreaking, provocative designs that heralded new directions in fashion throughout the 1900s. Handmade using time-honored techniques, each page is presented on cotton paper and bears the unique imprint of the artisan who created it.
